HILLBILLIES: (Iowa & Missouri, USA)

Midwest skies, no. 43

Roaaaaaaaaaad Trip!!!  We've nicked Neko's grandparents touring van, feel like we're in Scooby-Do or the A-Team, and we're starting our tour of the South and Great Lakes.

If you want to do a big drive, late into the evening on an American road trip, don't expect to find a camp ground to stay in as they close early. We've heard you can park up in a Walmart (classy) if you're stuck for somewhere. Grandpa has installed a full-on siren in the van in case anyone tries any funny business. We've resisted the temptation to use this like Kojak so far.

After a day driving through a flat, featureless and forgotten state, we stayed in the parking lot of a gym for our first night as we were getting some miles in on route to our friends wedding. This worked out nicely as the next morning we were able to ask about day membership - they gave us a free trial, meaning we could have a nice morning run and a shower! We both generally find running incredibly boring and hard. On the up side, the treadmills had TV's on them. On the downside, the TVs had treadmills on them. Next day we went to Hannibal, Missouri where Mark Twain lived and set the adventures of Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn.
