Following our trek, we were really keen for a foot massage. Myanmar is in very early days as far as tourism goes. Nowhere in Hsipaw offers massage. However, when we enquired at a beauty parlour where Neko had her hair done, they were adamant to give us a foot beauty treatment. As it wasn’t normally on the menu, they concocted a medley of foot scrubs, the applications of various lotions, probably the skin lightening kind, and a foot rub of sorts.
Embarrassingly, and as an indication of their dazzling commitment to our request, we each had a beautician on each foot...and to add to the embarrassment, when Neko said it was a birthday treat for me, they wouldn't accept any pay. So sweet. What wasn't so sweet was realising the applied lotions had coagulated in my leg hairs causing them to dreadlock!
I'll be picking out the gunk until next birthday...
